Job Description

Summary

  • Position Summary (Friday and Saturday 9am -5:30pm. Additional 4 hours at Maine Medical Center)
    • Facilitates quality customer service for patients, patient's family, and support staff for all nutritional needs. Responsible for coordinating meal service, working closely with all patient caregivers. Triages issues to appropriate Nutrition personnel, allowing for prompt intervention. Provides primary contact between patients in assigned areas and Nutrition Services with Room Service meal selections or assisting patients with meal selection using a Bedside menu entry tool. On assigned units delivers and picks up meal trays. Assists with other nutrition related tasks. Serves as Department Customer Service Advocate. The work is performed at a high degree of independence.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred in order to compare menus to physicians' orders, and review menus with patients.
    • License/Certifications: N/A
    • Experience: Approximately 1-6 months' on-the-job experience necessary in order to gain understanding of meal/nourishments' preparation and nutritional value, learn to modify menus in compliance with Nutrition Manual, and learn hospital policies and procedures.
    • Must demonstrate aptitude of basic computer skills i.e., Microsoft word, internet, and ability to navigate between multiple applications that are required for the job. Ability to process and deliver unit nourishment meal items.
    • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention when comparing menu selections to physicians' diet orders, and making substitutions to diets.
    • Knowledge of Quality Improvement principles.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with Nursing staff, other department personnel, and patients.
    • Basic analytical skills necessary in order to ensure patient meals comply with physicians' order.
    • Ability to deliver and pick up all patient meal trays, which requires lifting and carrying.
