Job Description

Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Working under the direction of the physician, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering or assisting with diagnostic testing and studies of the cardiopulmonary system, neurophysiological studies and sleep disorder studies. Performs respiratory therapy procedures in the outpatient practice, such as, pulse oximetry, oxygen therapy, ppd testing, nebulizer treatments, and six minute walks, etc. Educates patients and families to promote knowledge and understanding of the disease process, medical therapy and self help. Public education activities focus on the promotion of cardiopulmonary wellness. Assists the physicians in the care and treatment of patients. Promotes a smooth flow of patients through the office and helps to create a calm, supportive atmosphere. Performs tasks as required, paying attention to detail and accuracy. Conducts all interactions with patients and personnel in a courteous, respectful manner while maintaining confidentiality. The incumbent is required to conduct all job responsibilities consistent with policies, procedures, and in compliance with all applicable laws or mandates relating to patient care and activities.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Graduate of an AMA approved program in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent is required.
    • License/Certifications: Current Maine license as Respiratory Therapist and an RRT from NBRC required. BCLS certification required. ACLS certification preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum 3 years' prior work experience in Respiratory Care is preferred.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, and other staff with the ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
    • Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.
    • Ability to travel to other offices as needed.
    • Proficient computer skills.
