Job Description

Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Respiratory Therapists work under the Leader of Respiratory Care and the charge therapist in providing all therapeutic, supportive and monitoring modalities to patients as prescribed by physicians, or their representatives or by departmental protocols in all areas of the hospitals. Therapists may be asked to work any shift as needed and to vary assigned schedules as needed in order to provide adequate coverage and attend meetings and in-services relevant to the job. They are required to adapt to technical advances in the field and learn new equipment and procedures as they are introduced. At all times, therapists are required to deliver the highest quality therapeutic, supportive and monitoring care in a cost efficient and timely manner. At all times they are required to act in a professional and courteous manner in interacting with patients, patient families, visitors, other members of the hospital staff and physicians.
  • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Graduate of an AMA approved program in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent is preferred.
    • License/Certifications: Maine licensed Respiratory Therapist or student actively pursuing credentials which qualify for licensure required. BLS Certification required. ACLS certification desirable. NBRC credentialing as an RRT (advanced practitioner) required within one year of eligibility.
    • Experience: Minimum of one thousand clinical hours as a graduate therapist.
