Position Summary

The Mammography Technologist/Breast Sonographer is a registered radiology technologist who performs mammography and breast ultrasound exams including procedures independently.

Sonographer utilizes clinical and technical knowledge to obtain high quality sonographic images and detailed patient information that will provide the radiologist with the diagnostic information necessary for accurate interpretations. Promotes a smooth flow of patients through the department and helps to create a calm and supportive atmosphere.

Performs tasks as required, paying attention to detail and accuracy. Conducts all interactions with patients and personnel in a courteous, respectful manner while maintaining confidentiality. The Mammography Technologist is a Radiologic Technologist in addition to being registered in Mammography. Performs mammography procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. The Mammography Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

1.Education: N/A

2.License/Certifications: Completion of a certificate or degree course of study specifically in Radiologic Technology is required. ARRT certificate and State of Maine license to perform as Radiology Technologist required. ARRT certification for Mammography is required.

3.Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical 3D mammography experience preferred.

4.Must meet/maintain MOSA requirements.

5.ARRT registry in Breast Sonography within 15 months of hire.
