Our unified name and operating structure will allow for simpler, more efficient processing and delivery of the quality products, services, information and distribution support our customers have come to expect from Algoma Hardwoods. ![]() Six Decades of Leadership, A Century of Tradition Algoma Hardwoods, Inc. is an experienced manufacturer with a century-old reputation for skill, knowledge and the highest quality wood products. We can trace our roots back to 1892 with the founding of Ahnapee Veneer and Seating which produced fine wood furniture for more than 50 years. In 1947, Algoma emerged as a leader in fire door construction with its introduction of the first wood-faced mineral-core fire door. Since then, Algoma Hardwoods has remained a leader in the manufacture of rated fire doors while expanding its offerings to include a full range of special purpose architectural doors. In 1994, Algoma introduced the industry to factory-owned and operated Distribution Centers, reducing the time between order and delivery. Strategically located throughout the country, and now known as Algoma Express (originally Ameri-Door), these Distribution Centers offer the same high quality as our Algoma factory. Distribution Centers offer architectural doors in a wide variety of styles and species - in stock and ready for shipment. Commercial wood doors are also available from the Distribution Centers. Special services include machining for hardware and lite openings, prefinishing, and resizing, as well as labeled fire doors. In 1997, Algoma began manufacturing and marketing its own Stile and Rail doors, truly the "fine furniture" segment of the door industry. Investment in plant, equipment and, most importantly, skilled labor, has allowed Algoma to become a major player in this "up market" segment. The success of Stile and Rail, coupled with market demand for a less expensive, stile and rail "aesthetic," led Algoma to introduce, in 2001, its Artisan Door series. The following year saw the successful testing of a ninety minute Artisan Door, allowing the series to go from non-rated to ninety minute, neutral or positive pressure. The Artisan SF series was introduced in 2002, offering a significant savings alternative to traditional forty five to ninety minute stile and rail doors.
Algoma Hardwoods remains committed to providing architects, designers and specifiers a full selection of wood doors, in an almost infinite variety of styles, cores, veneers, quality levels and functional capabilities. Our fine craftspeople can also provide a wide-range of factory-quality services for preserving quality, improving look and feel, and for expediting project completion. Algoma doors have been thoroughly tested and fully approved for a multitude of commercial building applications. All doors in our product lines offer Lifetime warranties, either full or limited.
Common Applications Doors Services Expert Craftspeople, Job Site Simplicity Algoma Hardwoods can provide superior craftsmanship and in-factory quality when compared to traditional field work. Our skilled craftspeople can finish, glaze, and machine doors in our climate-controlled conditions to assure high quality results, while saving our customers time and labor costs. Factory-Finishing Architectural wood doors are permanent features in a building and are long-term investments. Like fine furniture, they look better and last longer when factory-finished. Algoma’s factory-applied Univar finish, with environmentally-safe water-based stains and ultraviolet-cured top coats, ensures top aesthetics and performance for our customers'' projects. For the best possible finish, for smoother, more durable and with more uniform color, texture, and sheen...factory-finished doors offer the ultimate in quality, warranty, environmental consideration, and economical results. Algoma Hardwoods’ prefinish now features an anti-microbial technology that aids in the ongoing efforts by medical facilities, schools, and other buildings to maintain high levels of hygiene and germ control. This technology is offered on all factory-finished doors at no additional cost. Factory Glazing Factory installation of glass in wood doors (factory-glazing) offers a number of advantages over traditional field installation of glass. Cost savings, fire code compliance, timeliness, aesthetics and “one less nuisance” are the primary advantages that factory-glazing can offer. Custom Machining Algoma Hardwoods offers factory machining for hardware and accessories, allowing doors to arrive at the job site prepped and ready for installation. This saves time, ensures quality and accuracy, eliminates the need to coordinate machining, and saves labor costs.
